POUL  HANSEN

A student and then Contemporary of Sixten Ivarsson

   $325 SOLD  5-08-10

Poul Hansen, otherwise Paul Hansen was the pipe maker but before that in the ‘60s,
he was the very talented tool designer/ maker. The Danish pipe makers were his clients
and soon he was inspired by those beautiful pipes his clients make and started making
by himself. The early pipes were somehow rough in design and the finish. But soon it
became very sophisticated and that was because of the late Sixten Ivarsson
.

Sixten Ivarsson found the talent of Hansen and became the supporter and taught him
the techniques to make the better pipes. Then he had the major leap on the carving skills
and went in the business, concentrated on the American, German and the Japanese
markets right from the start. That was in the late ‘60s and his creation can be seen on his
American dealer’s catalogs published in those days. During the late ‘60s to the early ‘70s,
Hansen pipes were sold in the U.S. with the price range of US$100 to 500 which means
his pipes were not cheap. Some of his pipes were selling for MORE money than Sixten;s
