Questions about me and my Pipe Collection

So, Who the heck are you? My name is Bruce, I live in a small town just outside Portland, Oregon. I purchased my first pipe in 1969, it was a Charatan. I am a member of the Portland Pipe Club, we are also a Yahoo Group known as "PipeGuys"

We have at least 3 female members so someday we will have to consider changing that name!

Are you some kind of Pipe Expert?

Compared to my Wife the answer is YES. Compared to many Collectors and smokers NO. I have cleaned and inspected over 500 pipes and have the knowledge to make sure you will never get a bad pipe from me.

Can't I get a better deal buying from EBAY?

Sometimes you will get a better deal on EBAY than here. I get pipes from all over the World. I clean them up, check them for burnouts or other problems, and  look for the very best bargains available. Then offer the good ones to you. The bad ones are sitting in a big box or in a few cases I was able to return them. If you have several hours a day for research, learning, cleaning, going to the Post Office, keeping up a website and not getting too upset when some pipes you do get are bad, then you can do exactly what I do here.

Are you willing to Trade Pipes?

YES, Trading can be a lot of fun!  If you see a pipe here you like and believe you may have a Pipe at close to the same value, that I would like; we may find a good trade for both of us, sometimes you may have to add a few dollars or maybe I have to give you a few dollars to make it work out even for both of us. Please understand that at times even though a pipe may have a certain value to you, it may not to me. Just like when you look at some of my pipes listed here and feel they do not have the value I have placed on them, to you. Most of the time I will NOT be interested in a machine, mass produced pipe.

Is this your Business?

No, it is my hobby. If I never sell another pipe from this site it will not bother me. I only have pipes  that I like. For me, working and learning about the Pipes and making new pipe friends are way more important than any sales.

What is the difference between a "NEW" and a "UNSMOKED" pipe?

To me a NEW pipe can be several years old IF it has been in a box and properly stored. You should expect a NEW pipe to be in MINT or NEAR MINT shape, just like you would find it at a pipe store of high standing.

AN "UnSmoked" pipe can also be NEAR MINT but may also have some dings or scratches. Perhaps the stamping is worn because the pipe has been handled so many times. In other words you should expect something less than PERFECTION. THIS IS WHY I TAKE MORE PICTURES OF MY PIPES THAN ALMOST ANYONE ONLINE. Some shots are close to the same but with the glare of a flash different, SO NOTHING IS HIDDEN!!
