SALMASTRO
Freehand Horn
About the maker:
Salmastro pipes are made by the
emergent pipemaker Michele Mellone.
He has born in Trieste and now he
lives in Monferrato, where he has
his workshop. Mellone makes only
60-80 pieces each year. The name "Salmastro"
comes from the marine habitat and
Michele is often inspired by that,
even if the style of his pipes is
influenced by another of his
passions, the design world.
Michele thinks that the real turn in
his formation has been through the
knowledge of briar, thanks to the
regular visits at Romeo's BRIARmill, in Taggia, where Mimmo Romeo, famous
pipe maker, has dissipated all
doubts that Michele has got from the
legends that surrounds the briar.
The original style come from a mix
of the most famous Italian and
Danish schools. Michele, without
nationalistic prejudices, look at
them with great interest and
admiration, thinking that the
renovation of the pipe could also
come from the internationalization
of this art, giving an impulse to
the subjectivity like in
Architecture and Design.
His pieces are true Artisan pipes -
they not only look stunning, but
will also provide a cool and very
flavorful smoke.
